Serbia had 2.87 million employees in Q1 of 2024

In the first quarter 2024, Serbia had 2,871,700 employed people and 299,100 unemployed people, while the number of the population outside of the workforce (preschool children, school children, students, pensioners and housewives) stands at 2,475,700, the Serbian Statistics Office (RZS) said on Thursday.

Compared to the first quarter of 2023, the total number of employed increased by 61,600 persons, while the number of unemployed and people outside the workforce is lower by 14,500, i.e. 76,700.

The RZS said that, compared to Q4 of 2023, there was an increase in the number of the employed and unemployed by 27,500, and by 14,400 respectively, while the number of the population outside the workforce decreased by 51,800 persons.

The total rate of informal employment stood 12.1 percent, where the rate of informal employment in the agricultural sector was 50.5 percent and in non-agricultural sectors 6.5 percent.
