Serbia could get a humanoid robot factory this year

Serbian President Aleksandar Vučić said after a meeting with representatives of AGIBOT Innovation that Serbia could this year become the first country in Europe to produce such robots.

“This year, and in the coming months, we can embark on one of the largest investments ever in Serbia, and we can become the first country in Europe to produce these kinds of robots,” Vučić told journalists.

He stressed that this involves applied artificial intelligence and explained that it is not only about software, but also hardware.

“Someone has to make these robots as well, the machines, joints and all the other marvels, and all of that could be produced in Serbia. So there are three things. A robot factory, secondly, of course alongside a data centre, to also have data factories. Why? Because these robots need to have 100 million hours of learning for what they do. They are able to make tea, make coffee, iron clothes in the house, wash laundry and do everything else. And we will try to produce all of that here and be the first in Europe, and for it all to happen as early as this year,” he said.

“This company produces 39 per cent of all such robots in the world. There are no such factories in Europe, we would be the first. We would create robots in which robots and humans work together, where robots would learn from humans. By 2030, we will have 50 factories in which people and robots will work together,” he stated.

“Just bear in mind what this will mean for our GDP. The value of mobile phones is 10 billion a year; this is expected to be in the trillions, just so you understand what robots will bring. They can do all household chores, border control, monitor people, guard, care for others… They can be of help in everything,” Vučić said.

AGIBOT Innovation is a Chinese technology company specialising in the development and production of humanoid robots and artificial intelligence. It is headquartered in Shanghai, China, and was founded in February 2023.
