The deadline for launching a tender for the privatization or strategic partnership for Smelting and Mining Basin Bor (RTB Bor), which was set for late March, is probably going to be postponed until June – unofficial sources from the Serbian government say.
A privatization consultant has already been selected, tender documentation is being prepared, and in all likelihood, a public call will be launched before May – a source of the Politika daily says and adds that the deadline has been postponed solely for procedural reasons.
RTB Bor announced that it had generated net profit of USD 42.3 million in 2017 and that it regularly settled its liabilities and loan payments.
The only producer of copper, gold and other precious metals in Serbia had revenues of USD 302 million and expenditures of USD 218 million last year.
The initial deadline was defined in line with the memorandum signed between Serbia and the IMF following the eighth review of the arrangement.
Serbian Economy Minister, Goran Knezevic said that four foreign companies were interested in acquiring a share in RTB Bor, including the Russian Copper Company.
