Rio Sava, a daughter company of the mining giant Rio Tinto, has purchased a plot of land in Slatina near Loznica (in Western Serbia), which is designated for the construction of the Šabac – Loznica motorway segment – the Ne Damo Jadar Environmental Association says.
N1 TV had an opportunity to read the decree adopted by the Real Estate Cadastral Service of Loznica, dated 1 August 2022, by which the company Rio Sava is authorised to register ownership rights over three cadastral lots in Slatina – 462/ 3, 463/1, 463/2.
These lots are not included in the Spatial Plan of the Special Area for the Jadar Project but are marked as the land on which the Šabac – Loznica motorway stretch should be built.
Ne Damo Jadar asks why Rio Tinto is even allowed to buy land and whether that company is financing the construction of Serbia’s infrastructure, which, according to the association, is a government obligation.
The association also asks whether or not the ordinance establishing the spatial plan for the implementation of the Jadar project has really been annulled and confirms that Rio Tinto is still operating in the area.
