Rhythm of Europe! begins at SKCNS – concerts of Serbian and foreign bands, movie screenings and exhibitions

The Rhythm of Europe! event will take place from Tuesday, 5 May, to Saturday, 9 May, at the Student Cultural Centre in Novi Sad.

The event marks 9 May, Victory over Fascism Day and Europe Day.

Tuesday, 5 May

8 p.m. – “Cold War” (2018)

The film tells a passionate love story between two people which, due to their different backgrounds and temperaments, initially seems incompatible, yet is ultimately destined. It is set during the Cold War in the 1950s, in Poland, Berlin, Yugoslavia and Paris. The love between jazz pianist Viktor and the young Zula, talented in singing and dance, “burns” against the backdrop of post-war Europe, despite being separated by contemporary politics and unfortunate circumstances.

The opening of the exhibition by Predrag Srbljanin Srba, “Music in Images”, begins at 6 p.m. in the Large Gallery of SKCNS. The exhibition features caricatures and satirical graphics and will be on display until Friday, 15 May. Gallery opening hours are weekdays from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.

The presentation of the publication “Victory is Feminine. Women of Vojvodina in the Struggle Against Fascism” will be held at 7 p.m. in the SKCNS Club. Speakers will include the authors of the publication: Vojislav Martinov, Senior Curator of the Museum of Vojvodina, Kristina Meneši, Museum Advisor, and Dr Aleksandar Horvat, Senior Curator.

The publication consists of six professional texts and research studies dealing with various aspects and dimensions of women’s participation in the anti-fascist struggle.

Saturday, 9 May

A concert featuring the bands My Baby, Kraljevi Termiti, Rouzi live with Radar Crew, Jolly Little Bunch and Generation Z will take place in the Creative District at 8 p.m.

My Baby is a Dutch–New Zealand trio that blends blues, funk, dub and electronic music into a distinctive “delta trance” sound that is both organic and futuristic.

Kraljevi Termiti represent a new incarnation of the cult Rijeka punk band Termiti, which marked the Yugoslav scene in the late 1970s despite not releasing an album at the time.

Rouzi is one of the fastest-growing artists of the new generation, whose sound combines trap, UK garage, drum & bass and contemporary rap. Following the success of the singles “Malo tiše”, “Jao mama” and the debut album “Ko zna, zna”, she is embarking on a tour with a band, bringing audiences a new live performance format in collaboration with Radar Crew.

Jolly Little Bunch is a Novi Sad band that has been building a distinctive sound since 2017 at the intersection of rock, punk, metal, blues and grunge.

Generation Z is a young band from Bečej which, since 2021, has brought a fresh and energetic sound to the local alternative scene, combining various genre influences with a pronounced generational attitude.

Admission to all programmes is free.
