In an interview for N1 TV station, Head of the NGO European Movement in Kosovo, Rada Trajkovic said that Serbia’s President Aleksandar Vucic “uses Serbs from Kosovo and Metohija to solve important state issues, or abuses them to hide weakness and his diminished authority in the international community.”
Trajkovic also said Kosovo’s President Hashim Thaci “has good, both transparent and secret, communication with Vucic. They are one team on a common mission,” adding “the two are in daily contact, synchronising acts, helping each other in different ways, using all means to support each other.”
She said that in case of the division of Kosovo “the Serbs south of the Ibar river (dividing the town of Mitrovica into Serb north and Albanian south) could not survive.”
“Vucic and Thaci do not understand that the negotiations are not being held in a vacuum, but in surroundings made by volatile countries,” Trajkovic said.
“Only immature political elite, supported by certain politicians in the world, is trying to implement the Middle East project No. 2 in the Balkans by dividing Kosovo. It’s a dangerous process which directly imperils not only the Serbs south of the Ibar River but the whole region,” Trajkovic added.
She said that “even if there is no division of Kosovo, the consequences are already visible. More than 9,000 Serbs have left Kosovo, mostly the north part of it, since the idea on Kosovo delineation has become clearer.”
Trajkovic also said the situation in Kosovo (after Pristina increased customs duties to 100 per cent on goods from Serbia and Bosnia) was not as dramatic as one could think following the media in Belgrade.
“We still have shelves full of different products. I believe this is more of a drama for Belgrade; it will affect more the state budget and producers in the rest of Serbia than it will directly jeopardise the stability in the Serbian communities in Kosovo,“ Trajkovic said.
She said the decision on the tariffs was a political move.
“From the economic point of view, it negatively affects all Kosovo and Metohija population, especially the producers, first of all, the Albanians. I know that Albanian business people are exerting a lot of pressure on Kosovo’s Government,” Trajkovic said.
She added Kosovo’s Prime Minister Ramush Haradinaj, who is at odds with Thaci, introduced the measure to stop the Belgrade – Pristina dialogue on normalization of relations.
According to Trajkovic, Haradinaj “enjoys almost unanimous support in the Albanian society – from the elite to ordinary people.”
