The local government in Knjazevac and the Italian footwear producer, Progetti have signed an agreement stipulating sale of a land plot in the industrial zone on which the Italian company plans to build a new factory. The agreement was signed by the proprietor and the CEO of Progetti, Romano Rossi and the head of the Knjazevac municipality, Milan Djokic.
The Knjazevacinfo.rs website reports that this is the first greenfield investment in Knjazevac after almost 30 years.
Rossi said that Progetti had taken over around a hundred workers who had worked for in the Serbina Company in Knjazevac and that further development depended on the cooperation with future clients.
– By signing this agreement with the Municipality of Knjazevac, we have undertaken to build a new factory here in the next 24 months. So far, we have not received any subsidies from the Republic of Serbia, but we hope we will, as we would find them very helpful – Rossi said.
Djokic emphasized that the arrival of such an investor to the municipality was rather significant, especially considering Knjazevac’s tradition in footwear manufacture.
Progetti has three factories in Serbia – in Sombor, Vladimirci and Vrsac. It produces close to two million pairs a year and is the biggest exporter of footwear from Serbia.
