Prime minister to be announced on 12th June

The new Serbian prime minister will be announced on June 12, the Vecernje Novosti daily reported on Monday, citing “sources close to the ruling coalition.”

The newspaper recalled that front-runners so far to replace Aleksandar Vucic – who will take over as president at the end of May – have been First Deputy PM and Foreign Minister Ivica Dacic and State Administration and Local Self-Government Minister Ana Brnabic.

However, former Justice Minister Nikola Selakovic and current Minister of Finance Dusan Vujovic are also “in the running,” according to the article.

A cabinet reshuffle is also reportedly on the cards. The daily said that at least one minister is expected to to sacked – “but that does not mean there won’t be more changes.”

This primarily concerns relations between the Progressives (SNS) and the Socialists (SPS) – “which depends on whether or not the SPS leader (Dacic) will sit in the chair in 11 Nemanjina Street (become prime minister),” Vecernje Novosti writes.
