Prime Minister presents the BIO4 project

BIO4 campus is a huge visionary project we have been working on for over 18 months, said Serbian Prime Minister Ana Brnabic, adding that she was certain the project would “positively change the destiny of our country, boost the economy and our competitiveness and raise the average salary and pensions because it will create enormous added value.”

At a presentation of a BIO4 campus conceptual design in the Serbian Government building, Brnabic said that the project will also contribute to the prevention of brain drain, particularly among young people in Serbia, while also spurring many of them to move back to Serbia in order to work on some of the most interesting, innovative and challenging projects in biotechnology.

“Biotechnology is, without any doubt, the future,” said Brnabic.

BIO4 campus is designed as a unique place of development in biomedicine, bioinformatics, biotechnology and biodiversity. The construction of the BIO4 campus should begin in the first half of 2023, and the first organisations will move to the campus in the first half of 2025. Some 190 million euros will be spent on its construction and another 100 million on campus equipment.

Brnabic also said negotiations on financing the construction were underway with the Council of Europe Development Bank, adding that, if these negotiations, the government will look for other funding sources.

The campus will be used by the Belgrade University Faculty of Biology and Faculty of Pharmacy and five scientific institutes.
