Prime Minister battling with unruly ministers

There have been quite a few quarrels recently between Serbian PM, Ana Brnabic and her first deputy, Ivica Dacic which culminated at the last government session when the PM cut off Dacic and said: “I can’t remember you ever behaving like this when Vucic was prime minister”.

The session started as usual, and then, at certain point, Dacic became very critical of the way the documentation for the session had been delivered, and how certain officials had been appointed, thus indirectly criticizing Brnabic too.

“It is really unacceptable for the materials for the session to be delivered immediately prior to the session because we don’t have enough time to read through them”, Dacic said. When the topic moved to appointment of certain officials, Dacic was critical of Vladan Vukosavljevic being appointed the culture minister.

“Who is that man”, Dacic asked, referring to Vukosavljevic.

This did not go unnoticed by the EU Integration Minister, Jadranka Joksimovic who stood up to Dacic and said: “You are also just one of the ministers, like we all are”.

This was not the only verbal conflict that marred the government session. When the aforementioned EU Integration Minister was arbitrarily appointed to be a member of the Administration Committee, without being consulted first, she protested: “I do not want to be a member of the Administration Committee, and it would be really nice if we could reach an agreement next time before a decision is made”.

The Construction Minister, Zorana Mihajlovic was also quite critical of the PM Ana Brnabic in the past, particularly when she found out that the PM gave the transcript of her interview with Bloomberg first to the Russian ambassador to Serbia, and only then to the Serbian government. To remind, in the interview, Brnabic was allegedly quoted as saying that the European Union (EU) was a partner of Serbia, while Russia was only its friend.
