The Criminal Police Directorate’s Crime Suppression Department stormed the offices of the D Express Company on Thursday evening. The police stayed in the building for five hours and they did not have a search warrant.
The police officers said they allegedly came because of “certain irregularities in the company’s operations,” the reports say.
Everything started when certain media outlets accused D Express and other private courier companies of “being responsible for the postal workers’ strike” and that they had actually orchestrated the strike.
The police questioned D Express’ for several hours without stating a clear reason for the questioning.
Following the incident, the United Group, the owner of D Express, said that the Serbian Government, whose incompetent management has threatened the subsistence of postal workers, is abusing public institutions for a showdown with United Group and using the Crime Suppression Department to shift the blame for the postal workers’ strike on D Express.
“D Express is not in any way linked to the postal workers’ strike. The truth is that the current situation in the market does not suit any private courier service. The Post Office workers had gone on strike in previous years, at a time when the United Group did not own D Express. Postal workers’ strikes are not new, but it is evident that the government is deliberately disseminating disinformation and trying to conceal the truth from the people about the strike, whilst looking to find the culprit in a company that is Post Office’s competitor,” said the United Group.
