The Patriarch of the Serbian Orthodox Church, Porfirije, presented the list of his favourite pop and rock songs on the Radio Belgrade 202 show that he listens to frequently.
“Of course, these are not all the songs I like listening to, but I chose those that paint a picture of what my generation was like when we were young and what we liked to listen to. There are different types of songs and genres, but together they form a mosaic,” Porfirije said.
These are the songs that made it to the patriarch’s list, who was a guest on the occasion of the radio station’s 53rd anniversary – ‘Hoću da znam’ by Partibrejkers, ‘Etida’ by the Korni group, ‘Odbrana’ by Idoli, ‘Zagreb i ja se volimo tajno’ by Arsen Dedić and ‘Šumadijski blues’ by Smak.
The selection also included “Knockin’ On Heaven’s Door” by Bob Dylan, “Dance Me To the End of Love” and “Famous Blue Raincoat” by Leonard Cohen, “Immigrant Song” by Led Zeppelin, “Prayer by François Villon” by Bulat Okudzhava and “It’s Five O’Clock” by the band Aphrodite’s Child.
Porfirije said “that priests are also ordinary people” which is reflected in his taste in music.
