Parliamentary session scheduled for vote of no confidence in Serbian government

A session of the National Assembly featuring an opposition motion for a vote of no confidence in the Government on its agenda has been scheduled for Monday, 27 July, reports Blic.

The motion for a vote of no confidence in the Serbian Government was submitted by opposition MPs back on 13 February, following the removal of heritage protection status from the General Staff building complex and the ongoing criminal proceedings against Minister of Culture Nikola Selaković.

The motion was signed by 62 MPs from the People’s Movement of Serbia, the Party of Freedom and Justice, the Green-Left Front, Serbia Centre, WE – Power of the People, the Ecological Uprising, the Free Citizens’ Movement, and others.

Under Serbian law, until the parliamentary session discussing the vote of no confidence in the Government concludes, the Government cannot request the President of the Republic to dissolve parliament. This means snap parliamentary elections cannot be called, even in theory, unless the Prime Minister tenders their resignation.
