Organisers: Exit Festival is effectively banned in Serbia over student support

The organisers of the Exit music festival have stated today that the event has been ‘effectively banned’ in Serbia due to the support they provided to students.

In a statement released on the day Exit has traditionally launched in Novi Sad over the past 26 years, the organisers noted that the event would not be held in Serbia this year because they ‘chose’ not to remain silent.

‘On this day for the past 26 years, Exit would begin. At this time, we would usually be rushing around the Fortress, finishing off the final touches, preparing to open the gates at 7pm and welcome you with a massive smile. Today, none of that is happening. There are no Exit flags around the city. No tens of thousands of guests from all over the world. No euphoria. None of the things for which our city and country were known across the globe,’ the statement reads.

They noted that Exit is not starting in Novi Sad today ‘because the gates of freedom in this country are currently closed’.

‘We will reopen them soon, all of us together, because the students are winning! Exit has only one home, and we believe we will see each other at the Fortress once again, when we all reclaim freedom in our country together,’ announced the organisers of the festival, which is being held across multiple locations this year, from Montenegro and Malta to Egypt.
