According to the Serbian parliamentary opposition, and after President Aleksandar Vucic’s announcement of the new government ministers, “it really does not matter who is formally the Prime Minister or a government minister, for that matter, since Aleksandar Vučić is both the Prime Minister and the Minister of each department”.
The opposition has also announced that it will not support the new government’s appointment in parliament.
Dragana Rakić, deputy head of the Democratic Party’s caucus in the Serbian parliament, says any Vučić’s government consisted of only henchmen, crooks and thieves, and that the new government will be no different.
“Most members of the government, starting with the PM, either have no experience, or their profession has nothing to do with the ministry they will be heading. What does Miloš Vučević have to do with Defence, Irena Vujović with Environment, Selaković with Labour or Vesić with Construction? And not to mention the coalition partners and their so-called experts, from Basta to Tončev to Ružić? Nobody counts for anything, because the system is set up in such a way that one person has to be asked everything and one person decides everything,” Rakić points out.
She adds that it is equally irrelevant who is in such a government and who is not a minister anymore. “There is no doubt that the current ministers – Vulin, Stefanović, Mihajlović, Nedimović and the others – will receive new appointments outside the government, like those before them. Who even remembers former ministers such as Sertić, Rodić, Bačević or Glamočić? Certainly no one, although they have done well for themselves and have everything they need. So the new government can be described in one sentence: Vučić changed something so that everything can stay the same,’ says Rakić.
According to her, the only encouraging thing is that this is the last government formed by Aleksandar Vučić and the last one formed according to the principle “catering a little bit to the east, and a little bit for the west’.
“Only Serbia and its citizens will have no one to count on in this government,” concludes the Rakić.
Miroslav Aleksić, head of the People’s Party caucus in the Serbian Parliament, also says that it is completely irrelevant who the ministers or other government officials are, because all decisions are made ‘by one person’.
