Opposition in TV news only 6 seconds a day

The President of Serbia, Aleksandar Vučić, was covered by the news programmes of the Radio Television of Serbia (RTS) for a total of 2 hours and 9 minutes in the period from 15 March to 30 April, while the 6 major opposition parties together for only 4 minutes and 25 seconds.

This means that all opposition parties appeared 5.8 seconds per day in the RTS news, which means less than 1 second per party.

These are the results of the monitoring conducted by the BIRODI social research office, which investigates the work of the public broadcaster every year, as well as other TV station that broadcast on national frequency.

In the period from 15 March to 30 April, the TV coverage of the President of Serbia was 2 hours and 9 minutes in the public broadcaster’s news without Vučić being given a single second of negative criticism, while in the main news programmes of all 6 TV stations that broadcast on national frequency, Vučić’s coverage was 18 and a half hours.

The opposition parties, Stranka slobode i pravde, Demokratska stranka, Narodna stranka, Dveri, Socijaldemokratska stranka and Pokret slobodnih građana, were left only with media coverage crumbs.

RTS news covered mostly Dragan Djilas and his SSP party (3 minutes and 28 seconds in 45 days), followed by Zoran Lutovac and the Democratic Party (DS) with 30 seconds and Boris Tadic’s SDS with 27 seconds. The remaining 3 parties did not get a single second of TV coverage in 45 days.
