Online shopping boom in Serbia – 627 shops open in one year

The number of online shops in Serbia at the end of March this year was 2,858, or 84 more stores than three months ago. The number of websites and applications through which a person can immediately buy and pay online has increased by 627 in the past year, according to data from the National Bank of Serbia (NBS).

In the first quarter of this year, the number of online shops went up by 28.1 percent relative to the same period in 2021, according to the NBS report.

The number of payment transactions in dinars online was nearly seven million, or 26.1 percent more than in the first quarter of last year, and the value of these transactions was 17.4 billion dinars, a 39.4 percent increase compared to the same period last year, writes Nova Ekonomija.

Due to the increasing availability of foreign goods and services online in Serbia,  the last quarter saw greater dynamics of transactions made in euros, the number of which increased compared to the first quarter of 2021 and stood at 59.3 percent, while their value increased by 73.5 percent.

Also, in the first quarter of 2022, payments in dollars were very similar to those in dinars, and they grew 27.4% in the number of transactions and 33% in their value compared to the same period last year.
