Unknown assailants shot Oliver Ivanovic this morning in Kosovska Mitrovica. He soon succumbed to injuries, several sources have confirmed for the Blic.
Ivanovic, the leader of the civic initiative “Serbia, Democracy, Justice”, was killed in a shooting that took place at Kosovska Mitrovica this morning around 8.15 am.
Ivanovic’s lawyer, Nebojsa Vlajic told Blic that Ivanovic, unfortunately, succumbed to injuries.
– He seems to have passed away on the spot. As far as we know, he was shot five times. He was immediately taken to the hospital, doctors tried to resuscitate him, but there was no help – Vlajić told Blic.
The Kosovo police confirmed that Ivanovic was sent to the hospital and that there was currently no detailed information about the attack, writes the Pristina daily Koha.
The deputy commander of the Kosovo Police, Sever Besim Hoti, told the KoSSev website that the police forces are searching for the attackers on Oliver Ivanovic.
– We sent several units to investigate the shooting. Our units are in the hospital and on the crime scene to conduct an official investigation – he said.
Ivanovic was shot while entering his party’s office.
Zeljko Bojic, head of the Kosovo Police Service for northern Kosovo, confirms for the Blic that that the attackers on Oliver Ivanovic used Opel Astra which was abandoned in a nearby street. He also says that Oliver Ivanovic’s body will be transferred to the forensic department where autopsy will be performed. Bojic did not want to comment on speculation that the attackers on Ivanovic were masked.
The Communities Minister in the Kosovo Government, Dalibor Jevtic said today that, following the assassination of Oliver Ivanovic, the situation in the Serb-dominated municipalities in Kosovo and Metohija was peaceful, and there were no major problems, apart from the feeling of unrest.
The Serbian delegation in Brussels has stopped the negotiations with Kosovo officials today and is on its way back to Belgrade following the murder of Oliver Ivanovic in Kosovska Mitrovica. As we learn, Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic has scheduled an urgent session of the National Security Council at noon today, following which he will address the media at 1pm.
