1,289 building permits were issued in January this year, which is 31.3% more than in January of the previous year, announced the State Statistical Office (RZS). The expected value of construction works in January this year is 70.7% higher than in the same period last year.
In January 2020, 71.6% of building permits were issued for buildings and 28.4% for other purposes. If we observe only the buildings-related data, 64% of the permits refer to residential buildings and 36% to non-residential buildings, while the rest refer to constructions for pipelines, aqueducts, connections and power lines (62.6%).
In January this year, a total of 1,556 apartments were built, spanning an average of 72.9 square metres.

Of the total number of apartments built, 7.7% will be built in buildings with only one apartment, spanning an average of 152.7 square metres, while 91.5% of the apartments will be built in buildings with three apartments or more, and their average size is much smaller, i.e. 64.8 square metres.
The estimated value of the new construction works in January 2020 is 81.9% of the total estimated value of the total construction works.
In terms of area, the largest construction activity is expected in Belgrade, with 50% of the expected value of new construction, followed by the South Banat region (20.5%) and the South Backa area (7.3%) in Vojvodina, while other areas account for up to 2.9%.
