The current protests and blockades by some students and citizens are supported by 38.9 percent of citizens, while 36.3 percent do not support them, according to a public opinion survey conducted by New Serbian Political Thought (NSPM).
When asked about the protests, 19.6 percent of respondents said they neither supported nor opposed them, while 5.2 percent had no opinion, the survey published on NSPM’s website states.
Almost half of those surveyed, 47 percent, believe that the students should have accepted the invitation of Serbian President Aleksandar Vučić to engage in dialogue, while 41.2 percent think they should not have, and 11.8 percent have no opinion on the matter.
When asked, if elections were to be held next week and they had to decide for or against the current government, 33.2 percent said they would support the current government, while 41.6 percent would vote against, and 25.2 percent were undecided. Without including the undecided, the ratio would be 44.3 percent for the current government and 55.7 percent against, the survey states.
Almost a third of respondents, 31.1 percent, believe there is a risk of civil war breaking out, while 57.1 percent do not. On the question of the current economic situation in the country, half of the respondents (49.8 percent) consider it bad, 31.6 percent say it is neither good nor bad, while 16.4 percent consider it good.
Regarding the organisation of the specialised exhibition “Expo 2027” in Belgrade, 40 percent support it, while 47.1 percent are against, with the remainder having no opinion.
The New Serbian Political Thought survey was conducted by telephone from 28 August to 8 September, across Serbia (excluding Kosovo and Metohija), on a representative sample of 1,050 respondents.
