Novi Sad to get another bridge on the Danube

A commercial agreement has been signed in the capital of Vojvodina, Novi Sad that stipulates the design and construction of a bypass and new bridge on the Danube River.

The contract was signed by the Serbian Minister of Construction, Transport and Infrastructure, Tomislav Momirović, the acting director of the Koridori Srbije Company, Aleksandar Antić, and the vice-president of the Chinese company China Road and Bridge Corporation, Zhang Xiaoyuan. The signing was also attended by Serbian PM Ana Brnabić and the Mayor of Novi Sad, Miloš Vučević.

“This bridge was mentioned in the spatial plans dating back to 1963, but so far, there hasn’t been the right moment to build it.  The west-bound bypass and the new bridge will alleviate traffic on existing bridges and the main streets in Novi Sad, and it will create incomparably better living conditions for the citizens of Novi Sad,” the Mayor of Novi Sad, Miloš Vučević, adding that the Serbian government will finance this project with a total 175.5 million euros.

According to Aleksandar Antić, this is a very complex project that will involve the construction of a 2,400-metre-long bridge, with 800 metres of it being right above the Danube River and the rest is access roads.
