Novi Sad-Subotica railroad to be finished by the end of 2024

The construction of the Novi Sad-Subotica fast railroad will be completed as planned, by the end of 2024, said Goran Vesić, the Serbian Minister of Construction, Transport and Infrastructure, after a meeting of the Work Group which monitors the work dynamics on that railroad segment.

The Novi Sad-Subotica section is 108.2 kilometres long, and the works entail the construction of two railroad tracks leading to the border with Hungary, near the town of Kelebija, and the reconstruction of nine railroad stations. The construction of rail hubs in Novi Sad, Vrbas and Subotica is also planned.

The Novi Sad-Subotica section will have a total of 49 overpasses, underpasses and viaducts, with the biggest viaduct being built near Vrbas – it will be 1,600 metres long.

“The construction of the fast railroad between Belgrade and Subotica, that is, the Novi Sad-Subotica stretch is currently our biggest national project,” Vesić said at the meeting held in Subotica.

According to him, in 2025, it will take less than three hours to travel between Belgrade and Budapest on this fast railroad.
