Novi Sad-Subotica high speed railway to become operational on 24th November

The President of Serbia, Aleksandar Vučić, announced on Thursday, October 3, that the newly constructed section of the high-speed railway from Novi Sad to Subotica will be opened on November 24.

He also expects that Hungary will complete its part of the railway in two years, after which the travel time from Belgrade to Budapest will be two hours and 40 minutes.

During the test ride from Belgrade to Subotica, Vučić stated that after the connection with Budapest, Serbia expects further connections via Niš to Thessaloniki, as well as to Istanbul, but that funding still needs to be secured for those projects.

“With the construction of this railway, everything changes. By connecting with Budapest, we expect a rise in the number of tourists,” Vučić said.

Speaking about the construction of the railway, Vučić emphasized that everything was done according to the highest standards, noting that the railway is built in such a way that there will be no noise during the ride and that the stations along the route are very well equipped.

During the testing of the railway in a special train of the German Railways, Vučić said that once the railway is opened, it will take just an hour and ten minutes to travel from Belgrade to Subotica.

His wife, Tamara Vučić, was also with him on the train.

In Subotica, Vučić will inspect the final works on the building of the Subotica Railway Station.
