Serbia’s President Aleksandar Vučić said yesterday, at the ceremony on the occasion of connecting a railroad segment with the Čortanovci viaduct, that the Belgrade-Novi Sad fast railroad will have been finished in six months’ time.
“The railway will be completely finished by the end of the year; the testing with the high-speed trains will begin first in Batajnica and after that is done, the railroad will be open for business,” Vučić said, pointing out that trains will be able to develop the speed of up to 200 kilometres per hour.
Vučić said that new Swiss double-decker trains would be purchased and that the new trains and the new railway would positively contribute to Serbia’s green agenda.
Oleg Belozerov, CEO and chairman of the board of directors of the Russian company RZD International, which is building this railroad, said that, despite the technical complexity of the project and the outbreak of the pandemic, the construction work never stopped.
“The Stara Pazova-Novi Sad railroad segment will have been ready by December this year, and early next year, we plan to start conducting tests on that section, after which the railway will be open to traffic,” Belozerov said.
Russian Ambassador to Serbia, Alexander Botsan-Kharchenko said that the reconstruction of the Belgrade-Novi Sad railway was one of the most important projects for the economic development of Serbia, and besides helping regional integration, it also fits into the European tendencies of Serbia, as it will connect Europe and the Balkans in the best possible way.
