Novi Sad and several other Serbian cities flooded after heavy rain

Heavy rains caused severe flooding in several parts of Serbia on Wednesday, the national weather service (RHMZ) said.

Rain and hail with strong winds were reported in the northern cities of Novi Sad and Zrenjanin in the afternoon, flooding roads in both. The FC Vojvodina-FC Cukaricki football match was stopped because of the storm that hit Novi Sad. Firefighters-rescuers evacuated two people from the roof of a flooded car in Partizanska Street in Novi Sad.

The RHMZ said that western and northern parts of the country will see more heavy rain with thunder and some hail overnight with strong winds expected in those areas.

The Serbian state TV (RTS) reported flooding in the central Serbia town of Koceljeva after local rivers spilt over their banks.

The storms and flooding come after four days of heavy weather in neighbouring Croatia.
