Nigel Kennedy to officially open BEMUS this year

British violinist Nigel Kennedy will officially open a Belgrade-based BEMUS classical music festival with a concert titled ‘Bach Meets Kennedy Meets Gershwin’ on 10th October, the festival said on its website.

Kennedy will perform with a chamber orchestra at the Serbian capital’s Sava Center Hall.

At the age of 16, Kennedy was invited by leading jazz violinist Stéphane Grappelli to appear with him at New York’s Carnegie Hall. He made his recording debut in 1984 with Elgar’s Violin Concerto. His subsequent recording of Vivaldi’s The Four Seasons with the English Chamber Orchestra in 1989 sold over two million copies and earned a place as one of the best-selling classical recordings ever. The album remained at the top of the UK classical charts for over a year, with total sales of over three million units.

This year’s 50th BEMUS will be opened with Kennedy’s concert on October 10 and will close on October 20 following a number of different concerts by solo artists, orchestras and choirs in several concert venues and museums.

The organizers said the full programme will be published early next month.

The tickets for Kennedy’s concert retail at 1,200, 1,900, 2,700 and 3,500 dinars.
