Nidec opens two factories in Novi Sad

Japanese electric motor manufacturer Nidec Corporation opened two factories – one that will produce automotive inverters and other electronic control units – in Serbia’s northern city of Novi Sad on Thursday.

The factory will serve as a central base for the company’s production activities in Europe, Nidec said in a press release.

Nidec started building the plants in December 2021 as part of plans to expand in Europe. The value of the project, which includes a factory and a research centre, is 1.5 billion euro, according to the Development Agency of Serbia.

The factories, which span 59,760 sq m in total, will employ 1,200 workers following the completion of the first phase of construction.

The opening ceremony was attended by Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic. Defence Minister Milos Vucevic, Finance Minister Sinisa Mali, Minister of Science and Technology Jelena Begovic, Nidec representatives and Novi Sad city officials were also in attendance.
