The information has already been confirmed on the official websites of the Secretariat for Migration of Switzerland and the Ministry of Europe and Foreign Affairs of France, but not on the EU’s official website.
Although the plan was to launch the ETIAS system the beginning of next year, this has been postponed until May 2025 at the earliest, reports the Schengen Visa Info website.
The reason for delaying the implementation of ETIAS is that “the third party is late with the implementation of the entry-exit system”.
What is ETIAS?
The ETIAS program requires a mandatory payment of seven euros for entering EU countries. This is not a visa per se, but a system for visitors from countries that do not require visas to enter Europe to register their visits in advance. Those who currently require entry visas will still need to apply for them.
“We hoped that the system would become operational at the beginning of next year at the latest, but it became clear that this is unattainable. So, the implementation of ETIAS has been postponed until May 2025, with the possibility of further postponement,” said the unnamed source of the Schengen Visa Info website.
That information has already been confirmed on the official websites of the Secretariat for Migration of Switzerland and the Ministry of Europe and Foreign Affairs of France, but not on the EU’s official website.
According to the original plan, ETIAS was supposed to be launched in November this year, but the system’s implementation was first postponed to the beginning of next year, and then to May 2025, with the possibility of further delays.
