New measures for the protection of the population from infectious diseases

The amendments to the Law on the Protection of the Population from Infectious Diseases stipulate the implementation of protection measures together with greater responsibility of citizens, and new competencies for communal police and municipal inspection, who now can charge penalties for individuals or companies not adhering to the prescribed measures.

The government has adopted the law on amendments to the Law on the Protection of the Population from Infectious Diseases because it is necessary to ensure strict compliance with the measures in order to protect the health and life of citizens, preserve the health care system and the economy of the country, the government has said.

The fines for individuals who refuse to wear protective mask indoors and for failure to respect the physical distance will remain unchanged (5,000 dinars for individuals and between 50,000 and 300,000 dinars for legal persons), but their application will be faster and more efficient.

The government has also decided to give a one-off financial aid of 10,000 dinars to health care workers.

It also adopted the draft law on amendments to the Law on the Budget of the State of Serbia for 2020, which stipulates total budget revenues of 1,291.40billion dinars and expenses in the amount of 1,774.40 billion dinars, or a deficit of 483 billion dinars.

Following the budget review, funds were also allocated to capital projects, extended implementation of the programme of economic assistance measures, allocation of subsidies to support the hotel industry, maintenance of state roads and construction of motorways, as well as direct incentives for agriculture.
