The candidate for the new Minister of Agriculture, Branislav Nedimovic, said that he was fully aware of the potentials and weaknesses of the Serbian agriculture and that it was highly important to start solving the problems in the area as soon as possible.
Nedimovic, who was nominated by Prime Minister-designate Aleksandar Vucic, said that there was no greater honor and obligation that to try to improve the agricultural sector in Serbia.
When asked how the country’s agrarian policy would develop in the next four years, he said that it would be defined in the next few days, after Prime Minister Vucic had presented his expose.
– As someone who comes from an area where 53% of people are directly or indirectly involved with agriculture, I am fully aware of the potentials and weaknesses in this field. It’s important to form a good team in the next few days and to start dealing with the problems right away – said Nedimovic, who is the current mayor of Sremska Mitrovica.
According to him, this year’s yields have been good when it comes to a large number of cultures, but he also believes that this fact shouldn’t make us complacent.
– We should become complacent, but prepare properly for the next budget and for quality incentives for producers – he said.
Nedimovic also pointed out that one of the priorities was getting in line with the European agricultural policy and emphasized that it was precisely the unified agrarian policy that was one of the pillars of the European Union.
– All the values present there can be used during the accession process. It’s important for our Directorate for Agrarian payments to get accreditation in the next few months to a year, in order to be able to receive assets meant for rural development. This is another priority on our way to Europe – he concluded.
