Household expenses were higher than income in the third quarter of the year, the Serbian Statistics Office said on Monday.
According to the latest statistical data, households had an average income of 66,909 Dinars while expenses totalled 67,131 Dinars.
Wages accounted for 51.2 per cent of overall monthly household income, pensions for 33.4 per cent, income from farming, hunting and fishing 4.3 per cent, other income 2.9 per cent and social security payments 2.8 per cent.

On the expenses side, money was mainly spent on food and non-alcoholic beverages (34.4 per cent), housing, water, power, gas and other fuels (15.5 per cent), transport (9 per cent), communications 5.3 per cent and health care 4.6 per cent.
The Statistics Office polled 1,562 households across Serbia to collect the data.
