To mark the 200th anniversary of the creation of the first photograph, the Modernator association, in cooperation with the Parobrod Cultural Institution, is organising the first edition of the Modernator Foto Fest, titled “200 Years Later…”.
The festival will officially open on 19 August at 7 pm, on World Photography Day, at the Parobrod Cultural Institution, and on 20 August at 7 pm at the Bluz i Pivo club, and will run until 8 September 2026. During the three-week festival, visitors can look forward to a rich accompanying programme featuring workshops, panel discussions, publication launches, film screenings and pop-up exhibitions. All programmes will be free of charge.
The centrepiece of the festival will be a juried photography exhibition, presented at two locations. The main exhibition will be held at the Parobrod Cultural Institution (Kapetan Mišina 6A), while the section dedicated to music and concert photography will be presented at the Bluz i Pivo club (Cetinjska 15), in cooperation with the Bluzika Cultural Centre.
The author of the best photograph will receive a solo exhibition at the Gallery of the Kovin Cultural Centre, produced according to Epson Digigraphie© standards. Exhibition participants will also compete for valuable prizes provided by Kultura fotografije magazine and Artis uramljivanje.
Around 180 entries were submitted to Modernator’s photography competition, which was open to professional photographers, students and photography enthusiasts, with authors from more than 20 cities across Serbia, as well as Germany, Croatia, Montenegro and North Macedonia. The expert jury, consisting of Aleksandar Kujučev, Darko Duckin and Jelena Balević, selected works by 122 authors, offering a unique overview of the contemporary photography scene and a variety of artistic approaches.
In addition to the selected photographers, the special exhibition section will feature prominent art photographers including Dragoljub Zamurović, Imre Sabo, el gvojos, Brajan Rašić, Milan Živković, Igor Čoko, Vojislav Luković, Branimir Karanović, Miloš Cvetković, Rajko Karišić, Aleksandar Kujučev and many others.
Modernator Foto Fest aims to grow into an annual event dedicated to photography, with the goal of developing regional and international cooperation, connecting professional photographers, artists, students, researchers and photography enthusiasts, and promoting contemporary photographic work.
