Mladenovic to replace Mali as Belgrade mayor

The leader of Independent Democratic Party of Serbia (Independent DSS), Andreja Mladenovic is tipped to become the next Belgrade mayor after Sinisa Mali steps down – Sputnik News reports.

According to our information, Mladenovic, who is currently deputy mayor, is currently considered as the only candidate for the Belgrade mayor after Mali resigns.

To remind, Serbian Prime Minister, Aleksandar Vucic said today, while visiting the construction sites of the Belgrade Waterfront project, that Mali „will step down not because he “didn’t do the job well, or because SNS no longer has the majority in the Belgrade Assembly, but because the intense smear campaign against him”.

Тhe plan is for Mladenovic to take up mayoral duty in summer and stay in that position until regular local elections take place in spring next year.

The head of the Independent DSS, Andreja Mladenovic used be a very close associate of Vojislav Kostunica, who lead the Democratic Party of Serbia (DSS). Mladenovic left the party in 2015, when the party was headed by Sanda Raskovic Ivic, because he did not want to listen to her orders and leave the coalition with the Serbian Progressive Party (SNS) in Belgrade. That’s when he founded the Independent DSS which then sided with SNS in parliamentary elections.
