Minister Basta wants Belgrade school where shooting took place to be demolished

Economy Minister Rade Basta proposed for the Vladislav Ribnikar  Elementary School, where a student committed mass murder on May 3, to be demolished and a memorial site to be built in its place.

“I call for the government and the opposition to unite and to build a memorial park for the victims of the school shooting on the site of the school so that their memory remains with us forever,” Basta wrote on his Instagram page.

He proposed for “the current school to be demolished, and that a new school be built somewhere in the vicinity”.

On Instagram, he also commented on the news reporting that a member of the Council of Parents said that the children wanted to go back to school, but not to that place.

Actress Milena Vasić, who is a member of the school’s Council of Parents, said that parents want their children to return to school and their usual pace of life and rejoin their peers and teachers, but not in the school area, which is why they are asking for help Belgrade and Serbian authorities to help them solve this issue.

She also noted that parents got an email from the school informing them that some children will start school on Monday, and others on Wednesday and that the decision was made by the Crisis Headquarters, without any of the parents taking part in making this decision.
