The Mexican Embassy in Serbia and the Cervantes Institute are celebrating one of the most famous Mexican holidays that is part of the world’s cultural heritage.
The Day of the Dead is celebrated in Mexico every year between October 31 and November 2, and Belgrade will host a big celebration on November 2, at the corner of Cika Ljubina and Knez Mihailova streets.
The celebration will begin at 5 p.m. and visitors will be able to have their faces painted in accordance with the celebration’s customs. Then, from 6:30 p.m. onwards, there will be a parade of La Catrinas, made up and dressed in traditional Mexican costumes, at Knez Mihailova Street.
At 7:00 p.m., the Altar of the Dead will be ceremonially presented in the gallery of the Cervantes Institute, a richly decorated, colorful display that traditionally welcomes the deceased, while from 7:30 p.m. screenings of short Mexican films will be held on the plateau in front of the Institute.
The entire event will be rounded off with a tasting of traditional Mexican delicacies prepared for the Day of the Dead, which will be given to passers-by in front of the Cervantes Institute from 8 p.m.
After the celebration, the Cervantes Institute will keep open for visitors the Altar of the Dead at its gallery until November 12.
