The Mayor of Novi Sad, Žarko Mićin, stated that the cancellation of the Serbian Progressive Party (SNS) rally, which had been planned for Friday, 4 September in the city, does not represent fear or retreat – and certainly not fear of blockaders – but rather demonstrates responsibility.
“The decision by the President (of Serbia), Aleksandar Vučić, to postpone the rally in Novi Sad is neither a defeat, nor weakness, nor a retreat. It is an indicator of responsibility and an awareness that no political rally and no demonstration of political strength is worth risking anyone’s life or safety,” Mićin wrote on Instagram.
He added that as Mayor of Novi Sad, where what he described as a “magnificent rally” was due to take place on Friday, he appreciates the President’s gesture and his willingness to put people’s safety above political interests.
“As for the political game of chess, we will play this one too. United, calmly, responsibly, and with dignity. Because the political arena is not a place for anger and aggression, but for results. Time is passing, and we continue to work. ‘United Serbia’ will win stronger than ever,” Mićin assessed.
The President of Serbia and official of the ruling Serbian Progressive Party (SNS), Aleksandar Vučić, announced today that the party is postponing the rally in Novi Sad, previously planned for Friday, 4 September.
“I am hereby informing you that we will postpone that address and that rally because human lives are what matter most to me,” Vučić said.
