Manja Grčić is the new director of RTS

The Board of Directors of Radio-Television of Serbia has decided to appoint Manja Grčić as the new director of this public broadcaster.

Grčić is also the director and co-owner of Minacord Media, the company within which Tanjug, K1 and TV Doktor operate and other media outlets reported.

She was born in 1979 and states that she graduated in journalism “from a journalism college in England”. It was precisely her degree that proved contentious during the selection process. One of the conditions the Director General of RTS must meet is to hold a university degree worth 240 ECTS credits. Shortly after it was announced that Grčić was one of the candidates, the Journalists’ Association of Serbia (UNS) reported that her diploma showed it carried 180 ECTS credits.

As reported by N1, Grčić today submitted confirmation to the Board that her degree from the University of Leeds comprises 240 credits.

According to her biography, she worked as a journalist at the BBC, served as a public relations adviser at the American agency USAID, and was director of the company Media System at Pink TV. In 2006 she became deputy director of Fox Television, and from 2008 she held the position of director of the national broadcaster TV3 Slovenia. In early 2011 she became Director General of Radio Television B92. She held that post until 2013, after which she joined Antenna Group as Director of Corporate and Regulatory Affairs.

Grčić is known for the fact that, during her mandate, the programme Utisak nedelje, hosted by Olja Bećković, was taken off the air on TV B92.

In June 2015 she became Director of Antenna Group for Serbia and Montenegro. She served as director of TV Prva, but left the position in 2019, several months after Prva and TV O2 were purchased by the company Kopernikus for €180 million. At the beginning of 2020 she founded the television channel K1.

“My friend Željko Joksimović invited me to create three new television channels together with him (K1, TV Doktor and Kazbuka). For me it was a challenge because, for the first time, I had the opportunity to build something that is partly mine. I therefore relied on everything I know and tried to draw on all the television lessons I have learned over the past 18 years in the television business. We wanted to offer the market something different. Above all, quality – both in terms of content and production, by which I mean sound, lighting, the expertise of the people working on it, the way it is filmed,” Grčić said at the time.

More precisely, Grčić is co-owner, together with Željko Joksimović, of Minacord Media, and is the director of the company Tačno, which owns Tanjug.

In 2019, together with Jovana Joksimović, she founded the marketing agency MAJO Public, which is known for frequently winning state contracts.

At the end of April 2021, the Government of Serbia appointed her as a member of the Board of Directors of the Belgrade Philharmonic Orchestra. She held that position until January 2026. At the same time, Suzana Vasiljević, media adviser to President Vučić, was also appointed to the same body.

As the media have repeatedly pointed out, Grčić does not hide her closeness to members of the authorities and is a frequent guest at their celebrations.
