Maestro Pogorelic to have a concert in Belgrade after three decades

Pianist Ivo Pogorelic will give a concert at the Kolarac Endowment in Belgrade on 18th December, his first concert in Serbia after almost three decades.

“Pogorelic chose himself to play in Kolarac because he has such fond memories of our concert hall”, says Mirjana Mima Lazarevic, music director at the Endowment.

The famous pianist performed in Belgrade 28 years ago, at Kolarac, in celebration of the 60th anniversary of the Radio Orchestra. Before he went to Moscow to study at the Tchaikovsky Conservatoire, he was a student at Vuckovic and Mokranjac music schools in Belgrade.

“We have been negotiating with maestro for almost a decade and we got lucky this year because he had an opening in his schedule to perform in Belgrade”, Lazarevic says and adds that Pogorelic created the repertoire for his Belgrade concert himself.

Lazarevic says that the concert tickets will go on sale a month before the concert. Despite the rumours that Pogorelic is quite capricious and demanding, he did not have any special requirements regarding his concert in Belgrade.

“The only thing that he was adamant about is that he would stop the concert if somebody takes his photograph or a mobile phone starts ringing in the middle of it”, Lazarevic adds.
