Lordan Zafranović’s film to open FEST on 2 October

Lordan Zafranović’s film Golden Cut 42 (Children of Kozara) will open the 53rd FEST International Film Festival at the Sava Centar on 2 October, the Belgrade Festivals Centre (CEBEF) has announced.

Produced by TS Media and written by Arsen Diklić and Lordan Zafranović, Golden Cut 42 (Children of Kozara) depicts the suffering of children in the Jasenovac concentration camp in 1942.

“Amidst the breakup of Yugoslavia in 1941, under the auspices of Nazi Germany, the Croatian Nazi regime established the Independent State of Croatia, and within it Jasenovac – a death camp. Through the interwoven perspectives of victims and perpetrators, director Lordan Zafranović explores the anatomy of evil. Serbs, Jews, Roma, and Croatian anti-fascists perish at the hands of eight Ustaše killers. One of them briefly rebels, only to become a victim himself of the evil he serves,” the statement read.

FEST will take place from 2 to 11 October 2026 in Belgrade, returning to the renovated Sava Center. Tickets can be purchased via the tickets.rs website.
