Lidl opens 16 supermarkets in 12 towns in Serbia

At eight o’clock today, Lidl Serbia opened 16 stores in 12 cities across Serbia, of which five are in Belgrade.

The Lidl supermarkets in Serbia will be selling 1,500 brands, of which as many as 350 are Serbian.

In terms of fruit and vegetable supply the German retailer has been established cooperation with more than 25 suppliers from Serbia.

Employees at Lidl stores will have a five-day working week, and thanks to electronic records, the company reimburse their employees for every minute of their work – Lidl underlines.

Lidl opened five stores in Belgrade, located in Novi Beograd, Vidikovac, Zvezdara, Trosarina and Borca.

This chain also opened supermarkets Bor, Kragujevac, Nis, Leskovac, Smederevo, Subotica, Sombor, Uzice, Sabac, Novi Sad and Zrenjanin.

By the end of the year, the company plans to open seven more supermarkets – in Vrsac, Indjija, Pancevo, Kikinda, Krusevac, Jagodina and at another location in the capital city.

Today, Lidl is the largest discounted retail chain in Europe. It operates under the Schwarz Group, which is headquartered in Neckarsulm, Germany.

The first Lidl store opened in 1973 in the town of Ludwigshafen, and by the late 1980s, there were more than 600 Lidl stores only in the area of West Germany.

A large, new market openned up for the company in 1989 with the fall of the Berlin Wall, when Lidl begins to expand into the eastern part of the country.

Lidl currently operates in 27 countries of Europe and the USA, and its network has more than 10,500 modern discount srores. The company employs around 260,000 people.

Lidly products are stored in more than 150 logistics centers around the world.

According to the data compiled by international market analysis group LZ Retailytics, the Schwarz Group ( which owns Kaufland and Lidl chains) was the largest European retail chain of food products in the fiscal year 2017, with the value of sales of 96.9 billion euro.
