Lidl building two supermarkets in Belgrade

One of the biggest supermarket chains in Europe, Lidl will open a store in Belgrade at the beginning of next year.

Lidl has been building a supermarket since this summer, on a land plot located near the Tempo supermarket in Cukarica. The German supermarket chain says that this is not going to be their only store in Belgrade.

“The Lidl Company wants to offer its products to consumers in supermarkets in several areas in Belgrade, and the locations that we are considering are located in Vojislav Ilic Street, Zemunska Street, Knez Viseslav Street, Zrenjaninski Put and Sava Maskovic Street. We have started building our supermarket in Cukarica in July this year, and we estimate that it will be finished in early 2018”, Lidl says.

According to the German supermarket chain, the focus now is on building new store and constantly searching for new locations. Regardless of the supermarkets being in different stages of construction, the company continues to stick to its policy of opening them all on the same day.

Yesterday, the German supermarket chain bought a garage located on the corner of Despot Stefan Boulevard and Cvijiceva Street in Belgrade, which is going to be torn down and a supermarket built in its place. Lidl bought the garage at an auction, beating three other companies including Delhaize, and has paid 3.65 million EUR for it. The location spans 4,901 square metres.
