On October 11th, the German producer of solutions for the transfer of energy and data in the car industry Leoni will officially mark the beginning of the construction of its plant in Kraljevo, where the works began in August.
With the completion of this facility in early 2020, Serbia will be the only European country within the Leoni cable system division, which contains four production units and Leoni will become the biggest industrial employer in the country with 10,000 employees.
“We are going to finish building a 6,800-square-metre factory in Kraljevo by the end of 2019. The first products will leave the factory in February, and the construction part will be finalized by the end of 2019”, announced Clemens Sachs, Managing Director of Leoni Serbia.
Since it came to Serbia in 2009, Leoni has invested around EUR 90 million in facilities and equipment. The company employs around 6,000 people in Malosiste, Prokuplje and Nis, and when it reaches its full capacity following the opening of the factory in Kraljevo, that number will grow to over 10,000.

As Serbia’s importance in the strategy of development of the Leoni division of cable systems grows, the Managing Board had decided to organize, for the first time in the past 10 years, a meeting of Leoni’s managing directors from abroad which took place in Serbia, on September 25th and 26th.
The company in Serbia has been constantly recording a growing trend since the first factory opened in 2009, they say.
In 2017, the sales amounted to EUR 150 million, with 1.5 million cable sets produced since 2009. Leoni’s clients are the leading car manufacturers, including BMW and Mercedes.
“We believe in the development of our business in Serbia. We will ensure that several thousand new employees of our factory in Kraljevo will have the best working conditions possible. On the other hand, we need a predictable and stable political and economic environment in order to secure a further growth of our business in Serbia”, Martin Schutern, a member of the board of directors of the Leoni Group and the director of the Leoni division of cable systems, said following the meeting of the managing directors of this division in Nis.
He says that Serbia has huge human resource potential, and good working culture and ethics, which Leoni highly appreciates.
“Looking at our 6,000 employees here, we can see a very loyal team that supports us in the challenges of the important projects we are implementing for our key clients. We continue to attract job candidates since we offer a secure job and opportunities for career development”, said Human Resources Director at Leoni Cable Systems Division, Bianca Scheller.
For the past 10 years, Leoni Wiring Systems Southeast d.o.o has paid more than 52 million euro into the budget of the Republic of Serbia on the basis of taxes and contributions to employee salaries.
