All court trials in Serbia scheduled for today will be postponed, as lawyers in Serbia have decided to go on a general strike across the country – says the Bar Association of Serbia.
The reason for the one-day work stoppage was the recently published legal positions of the Supreme Court of Cassation regarding the court costs involving cases that deal with housing loans and loan insurance by the National Loan Insurance Corporation (Nacionalna Korporacija za Osiguranje Kredita).
As stated in the decision, on September 24, lawyers throughout Serbia will not take part in any proceedings before courts and other bodies without exception. The same applies to cases of detention, proceedings against minors and proceedings with temporary measures.
“During the suspension of work, lawyers may submit written observations regarding deadlines or situations in which the party would lose the right to bring a legal claim or suffer irreparable damage,” their press release states.
