Jeremić: The signing of the French-German agreement takes Serbia away from the EU

The President of the People’s Party, Vuk Jeremić, said today that the signing of the Franch-German agreement on Kosovo and Metohija would set Serbia back in terms of its progress toward EU membership by a whole generation, because the President of Serbia, Aleksandar Vučić, would “receive an absolutely free hand” from the West to continue ruling in an undemocratic fashion as he has been doing for the past 11 years.

“Whoever wants to see Serbia in the EU should be against the signing of this agreement with all their might. The processes that have been going on for the last 10 years are moving Serbia away from the EU, and the signing of this agreement would significantly expedite those processes,” said Jeremić to Nova S television.

“If Vučić or someone on his behalf signs this, he would become a hero in Brussels, Washington, Berlin and Paris overnight. In exchange, he would receive treatment similar to the one received by the President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky,” Jeremić added.

Jeremić also stated that Vučić would then be celebrated and “rewarded with medals and decorations, starting with the French Legion of Honour”.

“If he became a hero of the West, then he could say with full credibility, ‘I did to you what no one believed someone from Serbia would do, and now I want to see the end to the ‘dysfunction’ of Bosnia and Herzegovina. They would, of course, believe him, and he would ask for a timeframe of let’s say five years to do it, in exchange for the West not bothering him by insisting on ‘small things’ such as freedom of the media or the rule of law,” Jeremić warned.

The President of the People’s Party pointed out that today Serbia is “on the brink of an abyss and one step away from a national catastrophe, facing a series of events that would have incalculable consequences for peace and stability in the region, as well as for social circumstances for many years”.

“That’s why I call on all pro-European-oriented citizens, all Eurosceptics, as well as all those citizens who do not have a clear position on Europe or Russia, to, for the sake of the future of our children, peace and stability, and the preservation of dignity, stand together and resist signing of this disastrous agreement”, Jeremić concluded.
