Italy, South Korea and Slovakia interested in investing in Zajecar – Chinese investment in Zrenjanin

The South Korean company, Chiang Shin which collaborates with Nike, Italy-based home appliances producer, De’Longhi and Slovakian cable company, Klauke have all expressed interest in investing in the town of Zajecar – says Bosko Nicic, the town’s mayor.

Although Chiang Shin from South Korea, which produces up to 57 million pairs of shoes a year, has expressed the strongest interest in investing in Zajecar, Nicic says that it is highly unlikely that the South Koreans will open a plant here because there isn’t enough qualified labour.

“An investment by De’Longhi is much more realistic, as the company has expressed a wish to open a plant here, employing 2,500 people. The representatives of the Italian company have already interviewed 240 people, of whom about 100 will be sent to their company for training, while the factory is being built here”, Nicic adds.

In the town of Zrenjanin, local councilmen have adopted a decree which stipulates the appropriation of building lots the Southeast Industrial Zone where a new factory of China’s Shandong Linglong and its subcontractors will be built.

Zrenjanin Mayor, Cedomir Janjic reminded that that was an investment worth nearly a billion dollars and that certain decisions had to be made by the local government in order for the factory to be located in the industrial zone, on an area that spans 136 hectares.

“An investment worth nearly a billion dollars sounds almost unbelievable and we are not yet fully aware what this means for our town and its future. We are also finalizing negotiations with three other Chinese companies”, he said.

Janjic added that Chinese investors want to start the construction of their Zrenjanin factory by March 2019 and that the first shipments of pneumatics, to be produced here, had already been contracted with the company’s German partners for 2021.
