Italian Culture Week in Novi Sad from 20th to 26th May

On the occasion of the 90th International Agricultural Fair in Novi Sad, of which Italy is a partner country, the Italian Institute for Culture in Belgrade, in cooperation with the Italian Embassy in Belgrade, will host the Italian Culture Week in Novi Sad from 20th to 26th May.

The event will feature many initiatives and activities related to Italian culture in music, dance, theatre, film, art and linguistics. The Italian Culture Week is organized in collaboration with the ICE Office in Belgrade, the Novi Sad – European Capital of Culture Foundation, the Svilara Cultural Station, the Novi Sad City Museum, the Cultural Centre of Novi Sad, the University of Novi Sad’s Faculty of Philosophy, the Academy of Arts in Novi Sad, Youth Theatre and the Night of Taranta Foundation.

A tribute to Italian art will be held at the Petrovaradin Fortress with the exhibition “Italian Art at the Fortress”. The exhibition will showcase paintings from the Foreign Art Collection of the Novi Sad City Museum.

On May 20 and 21, an international conference titled “Italian Language, Literature, History and Culture – Encounters in Real, Virtual and Imaginary Space” will be held at the Department of Italian and Ibero-American Studies of the Faculty of Philosophy of the University of Novi Sad.

The Night of Taranta – Rhythm and Passion of Puglia” is the title of the concert that will take place on Saturday, May 20 at 8:00 PM on the plateau in front of the Svilara Cultural Station. An orchestra, two singers and three players will perform.

The Italian contemporary film will be presented from May 21 to 25 in the Cultural Center of Novi Sad. The Italian Film Day will feature eleven films of contemporary production that will have Serbian subtitles.

The Piano&Movies concert, performed by the Italian pianist Robert Turrin and organized in cooperation with the Academy of Arts in Novi Sad, will take place on Monday, May 22 at 8:00 p.m. in the Svilara Cultural Station. Turrin will make a tribute to the Italian film greats, as well as play original piano transcription of the music written by Nino Rota for Federico Fellini’s film “Casanova”.

The literary recital “The Nonexistent Knight”, based on the novel of the same name by Italo Calvino, will take place on Tuesday, May 23 at 8:00 p.m. at the Youth Theatre (Pozoriste Mladih) in Novi Sad.
