Italian cultural diplomacy honoured by the Belgrade City Museum

The Ambassador of Italy to Serbia, H.E. Luca Gori, and the Director of the Italian Cultural Institute in Belgrade, Roberto Cincotta, were honoured by the Belgrade City Museum on the occasion of the ceremony marking the 122nd anniversary of the museum institution, held at the Zemun City Museum. Also present at the ceremony were the First Lady, Tamara Vučić, and the Mayor of Belgrade, Aleksandar Šapić.

The prestigious recognition was awarded to Ambassador Gori and Dr Cincotta for the dynamic cultural diplomacy pursued in Serbia, with particular reference to the organisation of the exhibition “Lights of the Italian Seventeenth Century at the Borghese Gallery”, as well as the training project for staff of Serbian museums entitled “Museum accessibility as a shared culture and collective practice”, organised by the Embassy of Italy in Serbia and the Italian Cultural Institute in Belgrade in cooperation with the MAXXI Museum in Rome.

During the ceremony, the Museum Director, Ivan Milošević, underlined the importance of international cultural cooperation in strengthening the role of museums as places of dialogue, inclusion and the exchange of knowledge, confirming the excellent collaboration between museum, cultural and academic institutions of Italy and Serbia.

“This recognition goes to the entire outstanding team of the Embassy and the Italian Cultural Institute in Belgrade,” said the Ambassador of Italy to Serbia, Luca Gori. “Cultural diplomacy,” he added, “remains at the heart of our integrated promotion efforts, as demonstrated by the success currently being enjoyed by the exhibition of the Farnesina Collection.”
