The Italian company Antonio Carraro, which produces tractors for fruit farming, is interested in investing in Sremska Mitrovica.
Uroš Veselinović, the mayor’s assistant for investments and local economic development, said that the local authorities and the Italian company are very close to reaching an agreement.
“We are very close to reaching an agreement and we are talking about an investor that does business in Spain, Turkey and Australia. The negotiations have been going on since September. With a little effort on our part and a little will on theirs, they will open a factory in the Jezero industrial zone,” Veselinović added.
The new factory, according to him, will produce around 15 types of tractors, and the plan is to have a production and showroom facility. The total investment is worth EUR 8.8 million.
“They have already opened a bank account and registered their company here. So, the first steps have been made and now it’s up to us to solve remaining property and legal issues. We need to complete the infrastructure in the industrial zone which already has water, sewer and gas installations. According to the company’s business plan, they will create between 50 to 100 new jobs initially,” Veselinović added.
