Italian Ambassador to Serbia, Luca Gori, inaugurates the exhibition “COMICS MADE IN ITALY. Generations” at the Museum of Yugoslavia

Italian Ambassador to Belgrade, Luca Gori, spoke at the inauguration of the exhibition “COMICS MADE IN ITALY. Generations” held at the Museum of Yugoslavia in Belgrade.

The exhibition, curated by Gianni Bono and Giovanni Russo, and organized by Lucca Crea, Fumo di China, and the Italian Cultural Institute in Belgrade, in collaboration with the Embassy, offers a broad overview of the history of Italian comics, from its origins to the present day, highlighting the role of the so-called “ninth art” as a cultural bridge between Italy and Serbia.

Divided into several thematic sections – dedicated to the authors, history, works, and iconic characters of Italian comics, as well as major publishing houses and Serbian publishers – the exhibition features both historic figures of Italian comics and new generations of artists such as Giuseppe Palumbo, Sergio Algozzino, and Grazia La Padula, along with contributions from Serbian authors particularly appreciated in Italy, such as Sergej Solovjev, Branislav Kerac, and Aleksandar Zograf.

The exhibition is enriched with content and curiosities that visitors can explore further thanks to QR codes accompanying the works. During the exhibition’s opening – which runs until June 30th – the exhibition will also feature meetings with the authors and publishers, screenings, and workshops with comics schools.

“Comics represent an extraordinary form of artistic expression and a universal language capable of uniting different generations and cultures,” stated the Italian Ambassador to Belgrade, Luca Gori. “This exhibition bears witness,” he added, “to the vitality of Italian creativity and the strong intergenerational cultural bond between Italy and Serbia, which we intend to continue developing through shared initiatives in the field of cultural and creative industries, also in view of Expo Belgrade 2027, which is dedicated specifically to the theme of play.”
