Inflation in Serbia 8.8%

The National Statistics Office (RZS) said on Friday that consumer prices rose by 8.8 percent in February, adding that the biggest rise was in the price of food.

According to RZS figures, the prices of food and non-alcoholic beverages rose by 15.2 percent between February 2021 and February 2022.

Fuel and vehicle lubricant prices rose by 20.9 percent and railway costs rose by 15.4 percent.

The RZS said that the prices of only three groups of products remained unchanged – airline tickets, household electricity and housing insurance. The only prices that fell were those of computer equipment, by 1 percent.

Monthly inflation in February stood at 1.1 percent with prices rising by that much compared to January and by 1.9 percent compared to December 2021.

The National Bank of Serbia (NBS) said on Friday that montjly inflation stood at 1.1 percent and y.o.y. inflation at 8.8 percent, adding that “for the most part it is in line with NBS expectations expressed in the February inflation report”.
